Most people talk about Harry Potter (HP) and other series like HP. However there is an older, but still amazing series, known as Lord of the Rings.
The story follows a young hobbit named Frodo Baggins. Hobbits are like men; however, they are shorter, have curly hair, and (for males) usually hairy feet. Lord of the Rings also includes many other races including elves, dwarves, and wizards.
The story begins in a place called 'Middle Earth', which (to me) seems to be based on Medieval Europe.
The story begins when great rings were forged. In each ring is the power to govern each race. Three were given to elves, seven to dwarfs, and nine to men. However Saurmon forged a master ring to control all others in which he poured his cruelty, hatred and will to dominate all life. Many lands fell the to the power of the ring. But some resisted the ring. A last alliance of elves and men fought Saurmon's army on the slopes of Mount Doom.
Hope had faded from most but then Isildur, son of the King, took up his father's sword and sliced the ring from Saurmon's finger. Isildur had one chance to destroy the ring and evil forever. "But the hearts of men are easily swayed" and Isildur took the ring as a memento. However it has a mind of its own and betrayed Isildur to his death. The ring was lost for hundreds of years, until it was found by a creature named Gollum. He took the ring into the caves of Misty Mountains. He remained there for five hundred years while the ring poisoned his mind. But rumors of shadows in the east and whispers of a nameless evil signaled to the ring that its time with Gollum was over. It was then found by a hobbit by the name of Bilbo Baggins of the Shire who took the ring for his own, unaware of its power.
The ring remained with Bilbo for many years. Until Gandalf the Grey, a wizard, discovered the truth about the ring. Bilbo left the Shire, for good this time and at Gandalf's insistence, leaving the ring behind. Then it passed onto Frodo Baggins.
Frodo became bearer of the ring and it became his destiny to travel to the land of Mordor and cast the ring into the fires of Mount Doom, destroying evil forever. He set out on his journey in a team of nine. Four hobbits, an elf, a dwarf, two men, and the Grey Wizard. They were called 'The Fellowship of the Ring'. But will the fellowship be able to destroy the ring before it's too late?
Watch the movies or read the books to find out what happens! Many of my friends and I enjoy the trilogy.
