Program ideas from you!

We found out in January that the City of Edmonton was having its annual emergency preparedness event the first Saturday in May. We went, we were able to ask a wide variety of people (police, fire fighters, search and rescue, and many more) questions that helped us to earn our module. We were there for 1 and a half hours and had a great time. Loads of free things, visiting with the search and rescue dogs, and learning lots too.

A summer service challenge to Pathfinders, Rangers and Trex: find seniors citizens in your community who still live in their own home and help them keep their flower gardens, vegetable gardens, lawns and yards to their quality of enjoyment.

A graffiti wall is a fun way to start off a discussion on any topic. Put up big sheets of paper on the walls of your meeting space. Put out pencil crayons on the floor. Tell the topic of the meeting - media, friendship, citizenship, whatever! - and let everyone have 10 - 15 minutes to draw pictures or write down thoughts on that topic. They can write or draw whatever comes to mind! Depending on the point of your meeting, you can give them more or less instructions before drawing. For example, if it's media - are they thinking about media's influence on kids? Media messages about feminity and masculinity? Hollywood movies and smoking? After their drawing/writing time is up, have everyone walk around the room to look at the drawings and writings of everyone else. Then, lead a discussion about what they see up on the walls. Use the discussion to decide what more you all want to do on the topic!
